CHAPTER 3
Patients discuss how they made the decision to be implanted with the AUS. The AUS is a small implantable prosthesis implanted entirely within the body. The device mimics the function of a healthy sphincter muscle by keeping urethra closed until patient wishes to urinate. Patients who chose the AUS had not heard of it before, but knew they had to do something to regain their normal life and mental health. Upon experiencing life with the AUS, their only regret is not having chosen it earlier. All patients were satisfied with the device, even though it was a reluctant decision at first.
